Meet Rebecca

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHaving had a few of lifes little awakenings over the past few years, I began thinking that life’s way too short to keep putting off till tomorrow, what you can do today. So when the mention was made of using our hard earned long service leave and Marcus yet again brought up our often talked about, but never acted upon dreams of travelling around Australia in a caravan, there had already been many years of mere day dreaming gone into my decision before I said, “Why not? Let’s do it.” Now, living with an ‘other half’ who has always got at least a half a dozen holiday plans in place, just waiting for me to falter and show some interest in one of them, it wasn’t long after I had said “yes” to the big trip, that a full colour, bound copy of a provisional plan of our trip was placed in front of me. Mapped out day by day, it was a sizable book, showing where we could expect to be at any given time. I’m sure that some prior planning gone into that one!

Unlike any other holiday we have taken before, this is going to be exciting and stressful all rolled into one. Normally I say “Yes”, and off we go. All the planning is done for me and I just have to go along for the ride. This time is different. I have had to spend many an hour researching and planning, under the close supervision of Marcus. BORING! If it were up to me I would go with the flow and just go. This however, is not going to happen with Marcus about, stressing out about the finest of details. Many a friend has laughed out loud upon seeing previous holiday itineraries, all planned out, right down to the minute. This one is 6 whole months worth of planning…

Not to mention that while it is going to be hard enough planning for the two of us, on a tight budget for 6 months, we also have to factor in two elderly dogs. One of which was recently diagnosed with heart and liver problems, as if we didn’t have enough to worry about just at the moment. We couldn’t go without them for that length of time though, as they are our fur babies. Travelling with the dogs will sure enough have its hassles, but I hope for the most part it will add to the enjoyment of the trip.

So, 6 months on the road. It sure is going to be a shock, not having to get up every day for the usual trudge to work, but the structure of the ‘Marcus itinerary’ is sure to keep us on track. And I can settle in and just go along for the ride, just like normal.

For now though, it is planning, preparation and more and more planning and preparation. BORING!
