The Rig.

Our affair with the caravanning lifestyle began back in 2007 when we bought a second hand, 16 foot pop top to drag behind the Patrol. We towed that van to places it just shouldn’t have gotten to, or at least it shouldn’t have survived to tell the tale, yet, in every case it did survive. Not necessarily entirely intact, but that just meant that I learned quite a bit about caravan repairs.

Having completed a multitude of smaller trips, along with a couple of longer adventures with that set up, we decided that for a number of reasons, a larger, more spacious van would be the go. So we said goodbye to the Jayco and ordered a brand new, custom built, 21 1/2 foot behemoth.

Naturally, it was only after taking the new van out a couple of times, that we decided that the Patrol was somewhat lacking in the power department, with such a heavy load bringing up the rear. Hence the requirement for the new truck, which is probably in the category of over kill. My argument though, was that for six months we will pretty much be living between the van and the car. We want to be able to do it in comfort, ease and most of all, style.

Have a look at the next few pages and let me know. Did I fulfill my brief?
