The seed is sown.

Travelling around Australia has been a long-term goal of ours for many a year, but has always been talked about in the fashion of “when we retire…”. About 6 months ago after a particularly stressful day at work, I came home exhausted, but with an idea. What if we were to pack up and go. Six months off work, six months on the road. It sounded crazy. A way to blow off steam. To my surprise, Rebecca was hesitant, but agreed. So the planning began.

I was only half heartedly looking at options and plans, because I was sure it wasn’t going to happen. There seemed to be so much that needed to be considered. We would be travelling non-stop for 6 months with 2 medium sized dogs, in a caravan we’d had built, but had barely used. To be honest, I was scared, but every time Rebecca brought up possible issues and hazards and reasons we shouldn’t even be considering such folly, I found myself arguing it was exactly what we needed to be doing. Slowly but surely things began to fall into place for us.

First of all, Rebecca had her long service leave approved, and then I got mine. Now, I was really terrified. There was almost no turning back now, and with little more than 4 months before our departure date, I felt like I was already behind the 8 ball. Surely it’s more than just a matter of hooking up the van, locking the house and taking off? Hence these pages.

Stay tuned as we plan our trip to conquer Australia in one 6 month long sojourn, then stay on to read about our travels. Laugh with us as we laugh, laugh with us as we cry and no doubt, being cooped up in a 21 foot long tin can for 6 months, laugh with us as we argue our way around this great land of ours.

Welcome to our great Aussie Odyssey.
